What is The Aristotelian Society?

The Aristotelian Society, founded in 1880, meets fortnightly in London, throughout the academic year, to hear and discuss philosophical papers. Papers are drawn from an international base of contributors and discuss issues across a broad range of philosophical traditions, including those which are of greatest current interest. These meetings are open to the public.

Since 1995 the Aristotelian Society has enjoyed a close relationship with, and held its meetings at, the Philosophy Programme, now Institute of Philosophy, of the University of London.

You will find more information on the Society and its officers in the About Us section.

Papers

Papers will be available two weeks before each meeting on this website (in draft, non-citable form). The Proceedings of the Aristotelian Society contains the papers read at the meetings and short discussion notes on these papers. It is published as an on-line journal in March, June and September at blackwells-synergy.com. The hardback volume is published annually in October.

The Supplementary Volume, also published annually in June, contains the papers to be read at the Joint Session of the Aristotelian Society and the Mind Association, the annual conference of these societies, which takes place in July.

Books

The Society also publishes a series of books (previously in co-operation with Blackwell Publishers Ltd. and from 2001 with Oxford University Press). These are available to members at substantially reduced prices.

No material published in any of its volumes may be reproduced without permission of the Society.
